Knowing What We Believe: Outreach & Disciples

Making Disciples
Outreach: We are called to share the good news of the gospel to non-believers both locally and globally by words and service.

Discipleship: We are called to strengthen others by investing in their personal relationship with Christ.
Without disciple making Christianity disappears. Humanly speaking we’re only ever one generation away from Christianity disappearing from the planet. This is why every Christian is required by the Lord to make disciples.

It’s the responsibility of every generation to reach their generation for Christ.” Jack Wyrtzen
Why do we make disciples?

Because the Lord told us to (“All authority…has been given to me.”)

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” John 14:15
Who do we make disciples of?

We make disciples of all the nations (“Make disciples of all nations”).

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Who makes the disciples? We do!

“In most churches, the congregation pays the pastor to preach, win the lost, and build up the saved—while the church members function as cheerleaders (if they are enthusiastic) or spectators. The “converts” are won, baptized, and given the right hand of fellowship, then they join the other spectators. How much faster our churches would grow, and how much stronger and happier our church members would be, if each one were discipling another believer. The only way a local church can “be fruitful and multiply” (instead of growing by “additions”) is with a systematic discipleship program. This is the responsibility of every believer, and not just a small group who have been “called to go.” (Wiersbe)
How do we make disciples? We teach disciples to know and to be like Jesus (“Teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”)

“You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, 2 and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.”

Every Christian woman needs a more mature woman of the faith to learn from. That same woman needs to have a younger woman in her life that she is passing her faith on to. Every. Woman.

Every Christian man needs a more mature man of the faith to learn from. That same man needs to have a younger man in his life that he is passing his faith on to. Every. Man.
Action Step: find someone who can help you grow. Find someone to help grow.
How long do we make disciples?

We make disciples until the end of the age (“I am with you always, even to the end of the age”)
