The Cross – His and ours.
Who do you say Jesus is?
“What would happen in our world if we daily, considered ourselves dead and Christ lives in our place?”
We must live like we are dead – and Christ lives in our place.
1. Only then will we be able to conquer our sinful passions.
So what is the purpose of our crosses?
Our cross is not simply self-improvement or self-denial to build a better you. “Like Jesus’ death, our suffering and sacrifice have saving power; not for the individual soul but for society as a whole.” Mark Moore.
1. Only then will we learn our purpose in Christ.
Our death can “reverse the effects of sin in society, families and communities.” What effects of sin would God lay on your heart to see and sacrifice to reverse? As we in the church sacrifice ourselves, we can address the effects of sin around us: the foster-care system, medical needs, homelessness, eradicating racism, poverty, protection of women and children and the marginalized – the list is long and only limited by our prayers for open doors and eyes to see.
Christ’s church has an impressive track record: hospitals, poverty relief, protection of women and children, educating people without a written language… throughout the life of the Church cultures have been lifted by those who follow Jesus with crosses strapped to their back.
