Philippians 4:11-13, ESV
Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. 12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. 13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

Jesus enabled Paul to have biblical Perspective.
IN - vs. - WITH
Biblical contentment (Greek)= satisfied and adequate
“Christian contentment is the God-given ability to be satisfied with the loving provision of God in any and every situation.”- Charles Kelly
Circumstances do not have to drive your contentment.
Biblical contentment is:
1. A learned behavior.
2. Independent of circumstances.
3. A state of being, instead of doing.

When we are stuck, God can grow us.
Philippians 1:19-21, ESV
[…] for I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will turn out for my deliverance, 20 as it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death. 21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

Paul was confident that God was in control.
Eager Expectation = looking intently for something you know is coming
Paul wanted God to grow him.
“When Christ calls a man, He bids him come and die.” - Deitrich Bonhoeffer
Hebrews 11:6, ESV
And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

God grows our faith through circumstances.
Philippians 3:8-11, ESV
Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— 10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.

Following Jesus is:
1. Costly, so consider it carefully.
2. Urgent, so make your decision soon.
3. Worth it, so you’ll never regret it.

Paul was so free, the prison couldn’t contain his joy.
