Discussion Questions
1. Read 1 Cor. 4:16-17 – How do you feel about someone saying “be like me”? Shouldn’t we say “be like Jesus”? (Ans. – people need real life examples of what a Christian looks like, it’s not enough to just read about it.)
2. Read Luke 10:26-37. Discuss how religious people can lack “genuine concern”.
3. Read Rev. 2:1-7. Discuss how we can revert back to self-centeredness.
4. Demas, a dependable coworker of Paul's in Rome (Col 4:14; Philemon 24), would eventually desert Paul (2 Tim 4:10, 16). Are you in danger of being a deserter? How does mentoring help prevent that?
5. What can a mentor do to build up the one being mentored? (Validation, respect and encouragement)
6. Discuss the obstacles to mentoring:
-self-confidence, 1 Tim 4:12
-temptations, 2 Tim 2:21-22
-discouragement, 2 Tim 3:14; 4:2,5
7. Discuss the goals of mentoring. What are we trying to accomplish?
They "take a genuine interest in your welfare."
· They aren’t self-absorbed.
· They don’t have a hidden agenda.
· They are genuine.
· Interest in your welfare, not their own.
