Introductory thought: Many have given of themselves, some to the point of death, to secure our American freedoms. God requires that Christ-followers heavily invest all of themselves for the purpose of bringing Him glory and for the good of the Church. We are all soldiers today, involved in crucial spiritual warfare, and we must be all in. Are you giving all of yourself, who you are and what you have, for back to God for His purposes?

A Christ-follower, who is heavily investing who they are and what they have in God’s plan, will:

I. Listen to Those Who Speak Truth into Their Lives (12:1).
A. Paul is identified as the one speaking truth into the lives of believers in our text.

B. Who is speaking truth into your life? Are you listening? What is your plan of implementation after hearing a Sunday school lesson, Bible study or sermon?

C. Are you taking full advantage of the resources available to you?

D. A good listener will:
1. L – Love truth
2. I – Investigate all teaching
3. S – Submit to truthful teaching
4. T – Translate the Word into the language of daily living
5. E – Enhance their ability to learn
6. N – Nurture others with what they have learned

II. Be Motivated by God’s Mercy (12:1).

A. Believers are not to be motivated by a sense of duty.

B. Believers are not to be motivated by manipulation or guilt tripping.

C. Believers are not to be motivated by fear.

D. Believers are to be motivated by the demonstration of God’s love as experienced in His mercy. Mercy is God withholding what we deserve and graciously giving us what we don’t deserve.
1. Justification from the guilt and penalty of sin
2. Adoption in Jesus and identification with Christ
3. Grace, not under the law
4. Indwelling of the Holy Spirit
5. Grace in affliction
6. Hope of glory
7. God’s faithful love

III. Resolve, at a Point and Time, to Give Themselves to God (12:1, 2). This is:

1. Knowing God’s will (12:2)
2. Humbly accomplishing God’s will (12:3)
3. Happily playing our role in the body (12:4)
4. Graciously using our giftedness for God’s glory and the good of the Body.
