Sunday, May 23rd 2021

Every day the world pulls at us, calling us to live for the here and now, for ourselves, and for material gain. It calls us to find happiness and blessing not in the upside-down Kingdom of God but in the world as we want it - how we want it. In his book, The Divine Conspiracy, Dallas Willard says The Beatitudes are "explanations and illustrations, drawn from the immediate setting, of the present availability of the kingdom through personal relationship to Jesus." Jesus, in the greatest sermon ever preached, gives us a different vision of life, a different way of being anchored, a different way of living blessed. Join us for the next few weeks as we walk through Jesus’ teachings in our new sermon series “Blessed in Chaos."

Grace Group Questions

Week 7: Blessed are the Peacemakers.

Read Phil. 4:6. Why is it difficult to not be anxious about anything? What sort of things have caused you anxiety over the past years’ chaos?

Dan shared about the “Culture of Antagonism” - “US vs. THEM” being a main source of conflict and lack of peace. Was this a new concept to you? Why do you think we are so susceptible to this kind of thinking? How have you/can you be a peacemaker in our community, embodying a different way regarding this struggle in our culture?

Anchored peacemakers are peace-takers, not peace fakers. Dan shared the first step to being a peacemaker in chaos is to Identify the false peace. He mentioned several types of false peace; peace by force, peace by control, peace by anxiety (really total lack of peace), peace through avoidance, peace through force, but justified because of religious conviction. Which of these do you identify with the most?

The second step to becoming a peacemaker in chaos is to experience peace. Read Romans 5:1, what does it mean to have peace with God?

The final step to becoming a peacemaker in chaos is to embody peace, become a peace-taker. This means taking responsibility for broken relationships and reconciliation, not through antagonism, or offense, but out of the overflow of your experience of peace with God. How do you struggle with making peace with others? Do you chose false peace-which kind?

Read James 3:17-18. How has this sermon helped you understand your role as an anchored peace-taker? How is God calling you to do this like Jesus - from a posture of self-giving love?

Prayer:
• Invite your group to reflect in prayer for a few minutes over what you discussed.
• Have someone close your time by praying for your group.
