Sunday, May 16th 2021

Every day the world pulls at us, calling us to live for the here and now, for ourselves, and for material gain. It calls us to find happiness and blessing not in the upside-down Kingdom of God but in the world as we want it - how we want it. In his book, The Divine Conspiracy, Dallas Willard says The Beatitudes are "explanations and illustrations, drawn from the immediate setting, of the present availability of the kingdom through personal relationship to Jesus." Jesus, in the greatest sermon ever preached, gives us a different vision of life, a different way of being anchored, a different way of living blessed. Join us for the next few weeks as we walk through Jesus’ teachings in our new sermon series “Blessed in Chaos."

Grace Group Questions

Week 6: Blessed are the Pure in Heart

It is often said that consumers see about 5,000 messages a day. Some say because of Social Media this could be up to 10,000. Does this like a reasonable estimate? What “messages” do you regularly hear, which ones have the most affect on your “inside/heart” (TV ADS, NEWS, SOCIAL MEDIA, signs on the roadway, things your read).

Read Matt. 5:8, Ps.24:3-4, Ps. 51:10 Being Pure in heart means that your thoughts, desires, sense of purpose, will, understanding, and character are pure and blameless according to God’s standard. Considering Pastor Dan’s sermon, and these passages, what jumps out to you as you read these passages and consider purity of heart?

Read Mark 7:1-23 to see how Jesus corrected the Pharisee’s “Outside - In” view of life. How is the church guilty of such views, how are you personally?

The Blessing of an Inside - Out life comes when Jesus transforms your heart through salvation (Eze. 36:25-27, 2 For. 5:17, Gal. 2:20) and the Holy Spirit works ongoing transformation sanctification (1 Thess. 5:23-24, Phil. 2:12-13). How have you experienced the Holy Spirit’s ongoing work in your life after salvation? Give God praise for the way He has transformed you - share testimony’s and praise His name!
What spiritual disciplines/practices do you engage to partner in His work of purifying your heart and life until the day of His appearing (1 Tim. 6:14).

Seeing God has now and future implications. Read Ex. 33:11, Heb. 6:19, Heb 12:14; 1John 3:1-3; Rev 21:22-27. In addition to these scriptures and the sermon, how do you think purity of heart enables you to see God at work, his handiwork, experience his presence and walk in his will?

Pastor Dan said seeing God means intimacy (IN - TO - ME - YOU - SEE) with God. Where do you need to see God in your life right now? How is He inviting you to experience His work INSIDE through this message?

Prayer:
• Invite your group to reflect in prayer for a few minutes over what you discussed.
• Have someone close your time by praying for your group.
