Quest for power that was out of control

Herod Antipas killed the most religiously revered man in all of Israel at the time.

Herod was on shaky ground with the Roman Empire.
He saw a devotion to God he longed to experience, however he was not willing to accept the cost.

Herodias was looking for an opportune time.

“Herod was sorry that his drunken tongue had landed him in such an awkward situation, but he was not sorry enough to do what was right.”
He forgot all about the eyes of God.

John died bringing glory to his Savior.
4 Lessons We Can Learn:
1. The poison of holding a grudge
2. Seeking human approval above God’s approval
3. The depth and seriousness of sin
4. The cost of following Jesus
So how do we live in light of this?

Habitually go away and be with Jesus.
When reading about Jesus in scripture... take time to be with Jesus in the passage.
