In our April/May series, "Yes! We Will...", we'll be looking at seven commitments which will prepare us and our church family for the future.
All of this leads to the thought that Healthy Chrisitans make a Healthy Church.

The first week's commitment was to: STRIVE to be spiritually healthy (Christ-centered)
The second commitment was to: GROW in our faith and fellowship (maturity in our beliefs and behavior)
Last week's commitment was to: LIVE a lifestyle that Honors God and Helps People (respecting God and caring for the needs of people)

When you watch a movie, do you stick around for the credits?
The credits are just a seemingly endless list of names and jobs that we don't really pay much attention to.
But the movies and shows we watch would not, and could not, have been presented without those who are named in those credits.
Because they worked hard, gave of their time and energy, were faithful and diligent we become the recipients of their combined effort.
In many ways this captures the idea of what happens in churches all around the world.
This morning, if Grace Church were to run the credits for our Sunday morning celebration service, would your name appear?

The 4th commitment that each one of us and the church as a whole should be willing to make is to: SERVE in God's Church and your Community.
The word serve has many possible meanings, but in the context in which it is used today, the word can be defined as: "to provide someone or some group with practical help so as to meet a real need."

The church is not a secular organization but a spiritual organism. And as such, each of us has a responsibility to invest our life in what Jesus died to create - His Church!
It's hardly feasible for us to think of not being involved at all.
Followers of Christ are committed to the priorities of God. Attenders of Church are committed to themselves and their agenda.
Your community means the place where you live, go to school, work, and interact with the culture around you.
Matthew 5:16

There are some very good reasons why you and I, and the church as a whole, should be committed to serve in these two areas.
In Mark 10 we see a story in which several of Jesus' followers learned some important lessons about serving.
Mark 10:35-37, 41-45
-Serving is what Jesus was committed to do
-Serving is what Jesus said defined true greatness in God's kingdom
-Serving is what Jesus expects of those who call themselves His followers

Four Ways Serving in God's Church and Your Community Will Benefit Your Life:
1. Serving DEEPENS our faith.
James 2:14-17
Matthew 25:23
Faith that is authentic and not just "wishful thinking" or "intellectual agreement", must be active.

2. Serving DEVELOPS our S.H.A.P.E. through opportunities that really matter.
Ephesians 2:10
1 Peter 4:10
We each have:
spiritual gifts
heart passions
natural abilities
a personality wired in differing degrees for tasks and people
life experiences to draw from

3. Serving DRAWS us into authentic community.
Genesis 2:18
Mankind was made for community, not isolation, not aloneness, and not social distancing. The Bible reveals that the Jewish and Christian faith screams 'community!'

4. Serving DEMONSTRATES the reality of God's love to a world who is desperately in need.
Acts 10:38
In this passage we read about Jesus. He is the one we are to seek to emulate and serve with every bit of our energy and in every opportunity He provides.

https://www.gc3.org/bible/Israel Study Tour 2022
Pastor Don will be leading a study tour May 4 -18 of 2022 in the land of Israel. The tour will include historical cities like Jerusalem, Tiberias, Nazareth, Samaria, Jericho and take in sites like the Dead Sea, Jordan River, and Sea of Galilee, the Mount of Olives and the garden of Gethsemane. There is a year's worth of preparation that is part of the discovery into the land where Jesus lived, died, and ascended into heaven. Therefore, we would like to know who might be interested in learning more about this opportunity.
