How Big is Your Debt?
Luke 7:41-43
Pastor Jerry Koller
Context:
· We are introduced to a man named Simon.
· Simon was a Pharisee.
· He invited Jesus over for dinner.
· A certain woman heard that Jesus was in town.
· She is referred to as a "sinner."
· She had an alabaster vial of perfume that she took to Simon’s home.
· She situated herself at His feet and began to weep.
· The woman wiped the tears with her hair.
· She also kissed them and poured perfume on them.
“If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is—that she is a sinner.”
Jesus’ parable is a story about a moneylender who had borrowed money to two people.
· These two debtors didn't have any means to repay their debt.
· The moneylender cancelled their debt.
When Jesus asked Simon which of the two debtors would love the moneylender more. Simon gave the obvious answer. Simon replied, “I suppose the one who had the bigger debt canceled.”
· “You have judged correctly,” Jesus said. (Luke 7:43)
The greater the obligation, the greater the sense of gratitude when the obligation is cancelled.
APPLICATION
1. Our Inability To Pay Our Debt
· The greater the obligation, the greater the sense of gratitude when the obligation is cancelled.
2. God Alone Has the Ability to Cancel Our Debt
· Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven…"Who can forgive sins but God alone?” (Luke 5:21)
3. Forgiveness Inspires Love
4. Forgiveness is the Secret of Restored Beauty
· Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.” (Luke 7:48)

Thank You!

Many of you will recall that we did a backpack collection quite some time ago for El Ayudante in Honduras. After a huge slow down due to Covid, the back packs finally reached their destination. Missionary Denise Hodge writes, “THE BACKPACKS HAVE ARRIVED! It always takes a while for things to get here but we're always so excited when they do. Thank you ,thank you!! They are so awesome and the kids will love them. Please let everyone on the team know that they arrived safely and thank you for your support of us and EA. Blessings, Denise”

Pictures Needed

As Rocky Starland continues to put history videos together, he is seeking church related pictures from 1970-present. If you have any available (church plays, Pumpkinfest, potlucks, etc.), please either drop them off in envelopes and put them in his church mailbox. Please include information about each picture: people's names, what the event is, and any other helpful details. Also be sure to put your name on the envelope so we can return the pictures when we are done. If you’d like to bring digital copies, please make arrangements with Kim.

We Care Food Pantry Collection

Please bring a canned good or other non-perishable item(s) with you when you come to worship each week for the We Care Food Pantry. It would be great if you would bring something substantial, such as a can of stew or something someone can use for a meal. Other suggested items are: meat–canned or frozen; cereal; dry pasta; canned vegetables; canned fruit; tuna; spaghetti sauce; crackers; rice/rice mixes; pork & beans; canned soup; and peanut butter. There will be a container in the foyer for your contribution.
