Particular means to state in detail or to specify.
When Peter and John are asked by the religious leaders to disclose their authority they reply:
1. Jesus - personal name—is the Greek equivalent of the Hebrew “Jeshua” (or “Joshua”) which means “God is salvation” (Matthew 1:21).
2. Christ - the anointed one, is a title that acknowledged that He was the expected Messiah of Israel.
3. of Nazareth,
4. whom you crucified,
5. whom God raised from the dead.
“This composite name joins the historic figure with the messianic role that prophetic expectation and early Christianity knew that He possessed.” - Lexham Bible Dictionary
Faith in Christ consists of believing in his 1) incarnate coming, 2) obedience to the law, 3) preaching/teaching, 4) life and ministry, and 5) death, resurrection, and return. - [Thomas Oden, Classic Christianity]
v.12 - “There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among mortal by which we must be saved.” [John 14.6]
Particularization applies to you and me as well:
1. Image of God - hardwired by God for God; made to love God and one another.
2. Past - full of good, difficult, happiness, heartbreak, sin.
3. Present - All the resources for life; the only moment we have that make a difference.
FOMO (fear of missing out)
FOBW (fear of being wrong)
FONBGE (fear of not being good enough)
4. Future - filled with God’s presence or not; joy of the new creation or despair of the existing circumstances.
Jesus working in you through faith is the essential building block for new creation.
