Description: People who live in the Kingdom of Jesus Christ should stand out. No, it shouldn't necessarily be their clothing, hairstyle, or appearance that makes them different, but the makeup of their lives. Jesus teaches us in the beatitudes that righteousness is a lifestyle that will look different than the values of the world. In this last of the beatitudes and the following verses, it becomes clear that living this way will not simply make us stand out, but get us singled out. God's way of righteousness is not for the faint of heart. It requires countercultural courage. Don't lose heart, though. Jesus offers us the promise that when we are singled out for His sake, we are actually being put on display so others would be drawn to Him. Not only that, but those who endure hardship for walking with Jesus in this life can joyfully look forward to a reward in heaven that is greater than what we could ever ask, seek, or imagine.
