Matthew 27:45-54

FOR 1400 YEARS THE VEIL MEANT SEPARATION FROM GOD AND ISOLATION FROM ONE ANOTHER

Ex 26:31 Moses was told to make the first veil “And you shall make a veil of blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen. It shall be made with cherubim skillfully worked into it. 32 And you shall hang it on four pillars of acacia overlaid with gold, with hooks of gold, on four bases of silver. 33 And you shall hang the veil from the clasps, and bring the ark of the testimony in there within the veil. And the veil shall separate for you the Holy Place from the Most Holy.
(Ex 26:31–35).

FOR 1400 YEARS THE VEIL MEANT CONDEMNATION OF OUR SINS AND PROTECTION FROM GOD’S WRATH

"he said, “you cannot see my face, for man shall not see me and live.” (Ex 33:20).

“For the wages of sin is death” Rom 6:23

FOR 1400 YEARS THE VEIL MEANT AN OBLIGATION TO RELIGIOUS DUTY AND AN EXHIBITION OF DRY DULL ROUTINES

29 When Moses came down from Mount Sinai, with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand as he came down from the mountain, Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with God. 30 Aaron and all the people of Israel saw Moses, and behold, the skin of his face shone, and they were afraid to come near him. 31 But Moses called to them, and Aaron and all the leaders of the congregation returned to him, and Moses talked with them. 32 Afterward all the people of Israel came near, and he commanded them all that the Lord had spoken with him in Mount Sinai. 33 And when Moses had finished speaking with them, he put a veil over his face. (Ex 34:29–35)

THE VEIL MEANT SEPARATION BUT THE TEAR NOW MEANT SALVATION

Col 2:13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.

THE VEIL MEANT CONDEMNATION BUT THE TEAR NOW MEANT RECONCILIATION

Rom 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2For the law of the Spirit of life has set youb free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. 3For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin,c he condemned sin in the flesh, 4in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

THE VEIL MEANT OBLIGATION BUT THE TEAR NOW MEANT HABITATION

12 Since we have such a hope, we are very bold, 13 not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face so that the Israelites might not gaze at the outcome of what was being brought to an end. 14 But their minds were hardened. For to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away. 15 Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts. 16 But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit. (2 Co 3:11–18).
