Friday 4:00 PM

In this passage of God’s Word we see Jesus appearing to 2 of his lesser known disciples. They seem to be downtrodden and don’t recognize Him at first. However, after experiencing the risen Savior first-hand, they become joyfully and wholeheartedly dedicated to following Him. By taking a closer look at this story we can see that following Jesus wholeheartedly involves realizing:

1. Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, has always been God’s plan to redeem mankind

2. It’s not enough to hear others’ account of Jesus, we have to experience Him personally

3. The natural outcome of following Jesus, is to spread the good news
Reflection Questions

1. The story of women experiencing Jesus’ resurrection was not enough for the two disciples to believe Jesus had risen from the dead. They didn’t even realize who was walking and talking with them until Jesus broke the bread when they sat down for a meal with Him. Have you ever had a season of your life where you had heard of others’ experience with Jesus, but you hadn’t really ever personally experienced life with Jesus? What eventually led you to live with Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, and not just through others’ experiences?

2. It took living alongside Jesus and experiencing Him personally for the two disciples to realize who Jesus was and that He had risen from the dead. How well do you personally experience Him every day? What would help you to do that better? What would help you grow in your relationship with God?

3. After the two disciples experienced living alongside Jesus, and realized who was with them, they immediately went to tell others that Jesus had risen from the dead. How well do you tell others about your experience with Christ? How can you better help others to personally accept Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior? Who can keep you accountable to that?
