Zechariah 9:9
The Coming Ruler of God’s People
9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter Zion!
Shout aloud, O daughter Jerusalem!
Lo, your king comes to you;
triumphant and victorious is he,
humble and riding on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

Pilgrims on their way to Jerusalem for Passover

Longing for a King
—Jesus rides in on a colt in a Royal(?) Procession

“The salvation of God is on the way. This is the cry of Palm Sunday - though its truth is always present. Over and over, throughout time, God opens the “gates of righteousness” for us. The way is made perceivable and possible. We recognize it in Jesus’ life and witness - and in the responses they illicit. The way people shared what they have. The way the “gates of righteousness” opened within. The way the people came alive with a sense of what could be. They could taste the spiritual, material, political, relational liberation they longed for. “Hosanna,” they cried. A new world is possible.” —Liturgy that Matters
