Humility...
VIEWS others appreciatively (10:13-16)

•Humility sees value where others see annoyance (10:13-14).
•Humility sees investment where others see interruption (10:15-16).

“Children ought to be seen and not heard.”
Mirk’s Festial
Published in 1450

“The soul is healed by being with children.”
Fyodor Dostoevsky
Humility...
•SEES yourself accurately (10:17-22)

•In pride, you’ll believe things about yourself that aren’t true (Mark 10:20)
•In pride, you’ll believe that you can earn God’s love (10:21)
•In pride, you’ll hardwire your identity to your accomplishments (10:22)
Humility
•RECOGNIZES God properly (10:23-31)

•He can save the unsavable (10:26)
•He can do the impossible (10:27)
•He can give life eternal (10:30)

"Jesus’ teaching ran counter to the prevailing rabbinical teaching, which gave the wealthy a clear advantage for salvation. Jesus’ emphatic teaching that even the rich could not be saved by their own efforts left the bewildered disciples wondering what chance the poor stood."
The MacArthur Study Bible

Humility...
LOVES others sacrificially (10:32-45)

•Be grateful—the life your live is only possible because Jesus gave up his (10:32-34).

As long as you are proud you cannot know God. A proud man is always looking down on thing and people: and, of course, as long as you are looking down you cannot see something that is above you.
C.S. Lewis in Mere Christianity

•Be teachable—don’t tell Jesus what to do; ask him what you should do (10:35)
•Be like Jesus—don’t wait to be served when there are so many opportunities to serve others (10:44-45).
