New City Catechism | Q9: What does God require in the first, second, and third commandments?
Answer: First, that we know and trust God as the only true and living God. Second, that we avoid all idolatry and do not worship God improperly. Third, that we treat God’s name with fear and reverence, honoring also his Word and works.
http://newcitycatechism.com/new-city-catechism/#9“Jesus is facing a greater foe than the hurricane. Oh, you know that! He is facing a greater foe than demons. He is facing death, the most implacable, inexorable enemy of the human race… death. Such is his power that if he holds her by the hand, he just gently lifts her up right through it. Right through it! See? 'Honey, get up.' Death. When Jesus Christ says, 'If I have you by the hand, even death itself is nothing but a good night’s sleep, even death itself can only make you better. If I have you by the hand, that is what my power is like. Such is my power.'” —Tim Keller
1 - God is good.
2 - Our impatience comes from a lack of trust in Jesus’ goodness.
3 - Jesus has proven we can trust his timing.

“If the qualities of greatness described in the preceding chapter were God’s only attributes, he might conceivably be an immoral or amoral being, exercising his power and knowledge in a capricious or even cruel fashion. But because he is good as well as great, he can be trusted and loved.” —Millard Erickson
New City Catechism, Question 2: What is God?
God is the creator and sustainer of everyone and everything. He is eternal, infinite, and unchangeable in his power and perfection, goodness and glory, wisdom, justice, and truth. Nothing happens except through him and by his will.

Our Creator and Sustainer, everything holds together in you. The smallest creature is known to you, and the mightiest army is at your command. You rule with justice. Help us to trust your goodness in all that you will. Amen.
