There are a lot of things that bother me about this story...
* Positional power at its worst
* No gratitude or appreciation
* Duty instead of rights

But what bothers me was not what bothered Jesus’ disciples...
* In a world of masters and servants, Jesus was making them the servants

How does humility work in us?
> Humility is an accurate assessment of yourself, without needing to be the center of attention
> Humility is an accurate assessment of yourself, without needing to be the center of attention
Humility FREES us from:
1. Living like the world owes us something
2. Always having to prove something about ourselves
3. Feeling superior to others in order to feel good about ourselves
4. Needing to be recognized or appreciated for what we do
5. Always having to win or have the last word
6. Controlling others in order to get our way
7. Being the victim of a spirit of rejection
8. Feeling insignificant in a super-hero, image-centered world

Helen Keller:
"“I long to accomplish a great and noble task, but it is my chief duty to accomplish humble tasks as though they were great and noble…The world is moved along not only by the shoves of its heroes, but also by the aggregate of the tiny pushes of each honest worker.”
