I Corinthians 1:10-18

INTRO: We Know the Cross as...

-A Method of Crucifixion

"And He, bearing His cross, went out to a place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha, 18 where they crucified Him, and two others with Him, one on either side, and Jesus in the center."
John 19:17-18

-A Symbol of Christ

"Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But He was wounded for our transgressions,He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all." Isaiah 53:4-6

-A Object of our Conviction.

"Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it." Matthew 16:24-25

ANALYSIS/APPLICATION: The Message of the Cross has the Power to…

1. Save Us
"For the message of the CROSS is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God." 1 Corinthians 1:18

2. Separate Us
"But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world." Galatians 6:14

3. Sanctify Us.
"Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it." Matthew 16:24-25
