In "Jesus Instead of Me," we will look at the final days, hours, and minutes of Jesus' life prior to the cross. These stories are told in such a way that we see that the lengths God was willing to go to show His love for the world. Jesus instead of ME is the Gospel in four words, and our study and reflection of these stories will grow our gratitude for what Jesus did, and how we are called to live and love in response.

Grace Group Questions

Week 3: Betrayed for Me
Series Big Idea: Every act of Love costs something.
Sermon Big Idea: Jesus was betrayed for YOU.

1. Have you ever been betrayed by a friend, co-worker, family member? If you are willing to share, have 2 or 3 people briefly share their story.
What stood out to you the most from Pastor Dan’s sermon when he was talking about Judas?

2. Bible Study: The Bible contains several readings specific to Judas, and the Apostles mention his greed and betrayal. Read a few of them below. Judas’ plot with the religious establishment; Mk. 14:10-11, Matt. 26:14-16, 23-25 Luke 22:3-6. Judas’ greed: John 12:4-6. Judas’ in Gethsemane: Matt. 26:48-50, Lk. 22:47-48, Mk.14:43-45. Judas’ death; Matt. 27:3-10, Acts. 1:15-26. Examine each section of passages, considering what Pastor Dan mentioned in his message, what else do you notice about Judas?

3. Jesus knew he would be betrayed (John 6:64, 70-71) and yet didn’t lose focus on His mission. How can being betrayed cause us to lose focus? How can we learn from Jesus?

4. Jesus didn’t get angry when he was betrayed, he washed feet, he loved, he extended grace, he welcomed the betrayer to his table, he said “put away the sword,” he died to pave the way for forgiveness. Do you get angry when people betray you? Which of Jesus’ responses would be the hardest for you?

5. Jesus got revenge, but not on Judas - on sin itself. Read Rom. 5:7-8. How do you respond to the statement, “We’ve all been Judas”? How does this statement help you appreciate Jesus’ response to betrayal?

6. Pastor Dan asked the question, “What does love look like when it is offered to those who betray us?” In light of this message, how would you answer?

Prayer:
Invite your group to reflect in prayer for a few minutes over what you discussed.
