What is the Spirit saying to the followers of Jesus?
Discussion and Application Questions for Group Life Communities and Personal Study- Matthew 13:1-30
Observe – Take time to read the passage… one or several times. What words or ideas captures your attention? Where are words repeated? What is a new thought about the passage?
- What is a parable? Note that Matthew 13 is a collection of parables. See verses 31-52 for more parables about the kingdom.
- What is the seed? What are the four soils that receive the seed?
- What is the significance of eyes that can see and ears that can hear? see Verses 13-17
Interpret-
- Why does the seed not bear fruit in every situation?
- Why is the message of Jesus confusing to some people?
- In what ways do people become calloused? Is this a problem for unbelievers only or our believers vulnerable to a lack of understanding?
- In what ways must seeds and weeds coexist? Who are the enemies of the gospel? In what ways do they sow seeds of disharmony?
- What is the responsibility of believers in bringing the gospel to the world? What is our responsibility and what is God’s?
Apply
- What kind of soil are you….how might you be more receptive to the message of the kingdom?
- How should you deal with weeds among God’s people?
- What role do you have in spreading the seed among your friends and neighbors?
- Are you willing to allow Jesus to continue to teach you and bring new insights to your life? What keeps you from pursuing a fresh idea God gives you?
- Is there any truth for application that you've learned in this study or in Pastor Dave's message from Matthew 13?
