The Lord’s Supper
1. Purpose
a. Then (Exodus 12:12-14)
By its blood, they were saved.
b. Now (1 Corinthians 11:25-26)
Remembrance: He lived the life we could not live, died the death we were meant to die and was raised to life again so that we may live His life today.
2. Preparation
a. In Egypt (Exodus 12:3-8)
b. In Jerusalem (Matthew 26:17-19)
c. In our hearts (1 Corinthians 11:27-29)
Just as important as securing the lamb or finding the right place - we must prepare our hearts.
3. The Bread (Deuteronomy 16:3)
Why was it unleavened? It is a picture of Christ.
Why was it broken? Christ is inviting you to share in His sacrifice.
(Matthew 26:26)
4. The Cup
The third promise (Exodus 6:6-7)
The cup of redemption no longer memorialized what God did for His people in Egypt but what the Lamb of God would do for all of humankind.
The new covenant with God is that Jesus Christ is the only way to be reconciled to the Father and experience eternal life.
(Matthew 26:27-28)
