Four Principles for Getting God’s Guidance

1. God’s guidance is clearer when we are nearer to God.

• Our discernment of God’s guidance is heightened during periods of heightened devotion.
Romans 12:2
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

2. God’s guidance is confirmed by the church

Proverbs 12:15
“The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice.”
Proverbs 12:22
“Without counsel, plans fail, but with many advisors they succeed.”

Four Principles for Getting God’s Guidance

3. God’s guidance rarely comes in full measure.

God gives us enough guidance to obey Him but not so much that we abandon Him.
• Our comfort is not found in the plan; our comfort is found in the God of the plan!

Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.”
Acts 16:6
“And they went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia.”
Acts 13:5-8
“When they arrived at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews. And they had John to assist them. When thy had gone through the whole island as far as Paphos, they came upon a certain magician, a Jewish false prophet named Bar-Jesus. He was with the proconsul, SergiusPaulus, a man of intelligence, who summoned Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God. But Elymas the magician (for that is the meaning of his name) opposed them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith."

4. God’s guidance is not held in question by opposition.
