Our series for February and March is entitled, "What's In a Name?"

The series title is a question so that we can think about what is found in a name. It identifies a person, place, or object and brings a distinction between it and another.
If we think of a diamond, it's true worth is only understood when we look at the beauty, color, and cut of each facet. In a similar way, the names of God reveal different views into the complex majesty of who He is.
Last week we looked at the first name of God that is recorded in Scripture.
Elohim is used some 2,500 times and speaks of God who is Creator. We learned that Elohim is both personal and powerful.
Today our text is found in Exodus 3. It's the story of how God chose Moses to be the deliverer for the Hebrew people who were captive in Egypt. The background is given to us in Exodus 2.
Our specific text for today is found in Exodus 3:13-15. This passage should cause us to ask some basic questions about God and His name...
1. Why did Moses need to know God's name?
Exodus 3:13
2. What does this name of God mean?
Exodus 3:14-15a

The name that God gives to humanity is the name Yahweh. Also known as Jehovah.
The meaning of the name Yahweh or Jehovah implies that He is actively present and always will be.
3. How is this name of God relevant to our life?
Exodus 3:15b
Five Ways the Name of God is Relevant to Those Who Love Him:

1. Yahweh is present with us in times of SUFFERING.
Psalm 145:13-20; Exodus 6:6-7
2. Yahweh is present with us in times of INJUSTICE.
Psalm 83; Daniel 3:16-18
3. Yahweh is present with us in times of NEED.
Psalm 107:8-9; Matthew 6:25-34
4. Yahweh is present with us in times of failure and SIN.
Isaiah 55:7; Daniel 9:9; Psalm 32:5
The name Yahweh or Jehovah means a lot.
This is the God who wants to have a relationship with us.
If we reject Him, we and often our families will suffer.
Exodus 34:5-7
