RECAP: 2020 was difficult and no matter who you are you will have moments of uncertainty, challenge and difficulty in your life. When that season goes on with no end in sight it can lead to despair. David, in the Bible knew those feelings, he had his own long season of uncertainty and despair, yet he found a way forward, a way out of the darkness of despair. David changed his focus and chose to cling to God’s promises, and to remember His goodness. We have a choice: we can choose to interpret circumstances through God’s love or choose to interpret God’s love through our circumstances. When we choose to trust God and His goodness and love for us, then even when we go through difficult circumstances we can still find joy and hope.
QUESTIONS:
1.What’s been the most challenging part of the last year for you? Why?
2.What is it about uncertainty that is so difficult?
3.Read Psalm 13:1-4. Describe David’s emotions and feelings about God.
4.In what areas of your life are you prone to let your feelings drive your decisions and emotions?
5.Read Psalm 13:5-6. What does David choose? And why does it say he chose that?
6.When we remember God’s goodness to us it can change everything. What are some ways you’ve seen and experienced the goodness of God even in 2020?
7.What does God’s goodness say about God and about His love and presence with you even in hard times?

Psalms 13:1-6

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, in the moments in my life when I’m tempted to despair, to be discouraged or to want to give up, help me to change my focus. Help me to remember your goodness and choose to trust you because you are trustworthy and good. I need your help to interpret my circumstances and situations through your love. Thank you for your provision, your protection, your mercy, your faithfulness to me. Thank you that even though there may be no end in sight with my situation, you haven’t forgotten or left me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
TO DO THIS WEEK:
Take time to write down, or make a note on your phone of as many ways you’ve seen God’s goodness in 2020 as possible. Pull that list out as often as you need to so you remember His goodness and choose to trust Him.
