Luke 4:31-44

In this passage of God’s Word we see Jesus teaching again. Unlike His listeners that we talked about last week, these listeners somewhat get why Jesus has come, however not fully. By taking a look at this story, we can again learn how to not get our faith wrong by:

4. Turning your faith into purely intellectual knowledge
Luke 4:34, Matt. 22:36-40, Heb. 4:12, James 2:19-20

5. Boiling your faith down to rituals
Luke 4:36, 1 Sam. 15:22-23, Matt. 7:22

6. Not serving in any way
Luke 4:38-39, James 2:14-17
Reflection Questions

1. After taking a look at Jesus’ story here in chapter 4 of the Gospel of Luke, what stands out to you the most? Have you ever studied or heard this story taught on before? If you’re familiar with the story, did you notice anything that you haven’t noticed before?

2. Have you ever struggled with treating your faith more like an intellectual exercise about God rather than a relationship with God? If so, why? Do you still struggle with that? If so, how?

3. Have you ever struggled with treating your faith more like a regular ritual that you have to keep? If so, why? Do you still struggle with that? If so, how?

4. Have you ever had a season of your life, since you’ve been a Christian, that you were not serving in any way? If so, what did that season of your life look like? How did it impact your relationship with the Lord?

5. As we talked about handing over all of who we are over to God, did the Lord bring to your mind any aspects of your life that you can better surrender to Him? Do you feel like God has asked you to surrender that aspect of your life over to Him before? If so, what’s stopped you from giving it God?

6. Paint a picture in your mind of what your life would look like if you truly handed over everything to Him? What would look differently? Would you be less angry, self-centered, anxious, ect.?

7. What practical step(s) can you take better hand over every aspect of who you are over to God so that He can transform you? Who can keep you accountable to that?

In-Person Service Update

Thank you for your continual faithfulness and flexibility during these times. We especially appreciate those 8+ years old wearing their mask when not seated 6+ feet away from those outside of their household. Please remember, no offering plates will be passed; instead we ask you to give online or via the giving box near the gym entrance. Tables are set up in the back row of the gym for families with young children. We also kindly ask you to use the restroom before you come to ensure that our restrooms are as clean as possible for those who need to use them.

Women's Bible Study

A new women’s Bible study is being started on Tuesday mornings at 9:00 AM and will be meeting at the church building. For more information please contact April Rollf.
