Worship is God’s love language.
Worship is not about us. There are many benefits...but if we make it about us, we worship to get something from God. We become consumers of what was meant to show God our love.
How does He want to be worshipped?
Praise in the Psalms - comes from 7 different Hebrew words for praise telling us what he likes.
Halal – “to boast, to rave, to celebrate, to be clamorously foolish”
Psalm 69:30, 34 – 30 I will praise (halal) the name of God with a song; I will magnify him with thanksgiving. 34 Let heaven and earth praise (halal) him, the seas and everything that moves in them.
Zamar – “to sing and give praise while playing an instrument”
Psalm 27:6 NLT – At his sanctuary I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy, singing and praising (Zamar) the Lord with music.
Tehillah – “exuberant singing, enthusiastic praise and adoration”
Psalm 34:1 – I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise (tehillah) shall continually be in my mouth.
Shabach – “to address in a loud tone, to shout, to commend”
Psalm 63:3-4 – 3 Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise (shabach) you. 4 So I will bless you as long as I live; in your name I will lift up my hands.
Towdah – “to lift hands in adoration, a thank offering”
Psalm 50:23 – 23 Whoever offers praise glorifies Me; and to him who orders his conduct aright I will show the salvation of God.”
Yadah – “to acknowledge in public with an extended hand”
Psalm 9:1 NLT - I will praise (yadah) you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all the marvelous things you have done.
Barak – “to bless, to give thanks by kneeling or bowing”
Psalm 103:1 NLT – 1 Let all that I am praise (barak) the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name.
WORSHIP HAS A POSTURE
Worship is love. Love is always expressed. So worship is love expressed.
Posture matters. Outward posture expresses an inward reality. In fact I’d say it this way...your physical body expresses what your heart feels toward something.
The more you surrender to God the more joy, peace and freedom in His presence you will experience.
