“Revelation” means “the unveiling.” What is being unveiled? Is it Jesus Himself who is being unveiled? Or is Jesus the One is doing the unveiling of the things that must soon take place? The answer is…both.
Two Things to Focus on in Revelation
I. The Unveiling of our World (Rev 17–18)
A Few Things About the Great Prostitute

1. She’s a prostitute: That’s not because she’s all about sex. It’s because sin at its core is spiritual adultery.

2. She’s called Babylon: This is the name of a city with a long history in the Bible symbolizing man’s rebellion against God.

The essence of the spirit of Babylon is, “I will do what I want to do rather than what God wants me to do. I will be the point; I’ll be the center.”

3. She’s really attractive: She may not seem that attractive because she’s sitting on a beast and that’s not typically how we envision a beautiful woman.

4. She’s super-religious: One of her companions is the false prophet. False religion engages in a lot of activity for God, but without ever putting God back into the central place He belongs in our hearts.

a. Every false religion in the world teaches that we can save ourselves.
b. We can get God back into our lives without ever surrendering fully to Him.

5. She’s successfully seduced a lot of God’s people: It’s possible to be one of God’s people and still be swept up into her enchantments.

6. She hates Jesus: This woman has always hated Jesus and His people.

7. She loses!
Two Things to Focus on in Revelation
II. The Unveiling of Jesus Himself (Revelation 1:10-18)
Revelation 1:17 is a statement about Jesus’ absolute control as He’s unveiled to John in this vision.
Jesus said to John, “I’m the first and the last. I was there when it started, I’ll be the last One standing, and in the meantime I’m guiding it all to My perfect appointed ends.”
Three Questions to Finish this Message
1. Do you need to see Jesus this way?
2. Do you dare stand against Him?
3. Do you see what this shows us that we should be about?

TALK ABOUT IT

Discussion Questions:

1. Do you think about the 2nd Coming of Jesus? If so, what thoughts do you have about it?

2. What difference do you see between the Lord’s 1st Coming verses His 2nd Coming?

3. What do you believe that you need to do (if anything) to prepare for His 2nd Coming?
