A new year, a clean slate. Have we jumped into the middle of our faith before fully grasping the basics? Or maybe we can benefit from a little refresher course? That's what Origin Story is all about. As we dive into a new year, let's gather together with people of every step in their faith and take a deep look into what it is to walk with Jesus.
This resource is to help parents as you connect with their middle schooler on what they are learning during midweek and to start conversations about yours and your student walk with Jesus. I pray this is something useful to you and your family. I am so grateful for the opportunity to be able to walk alongside you as you and your student(s) grow in your faith! God bless.
What is something you did for a friend that had a huge impact on their life?

What is something a friend did for you that had a huge impact on your life?

Why did those things stick out to you?
Here we pick up from where we left off, with Jesus continuing his ministry. We begin with Jesus kicking it with his Disciples at someone who generously invited them into their house.
What stands out to you hear?

What is Jesus' immediate response to seeing this large crowd?

If Jesus' life can be a template for our own, how do we live more like this today?
What stands out to you about these four men?

What do you think Jesus is going to think about all of this?
Does that stand out as a strange response? Do you think that's the reason those four men lowered their friend down to Jesus?

Why do you think Jesus responded in this way?

Though the Pharisees (teachers) were right in saying that only God can forgive sins, what do you think they are missing in their understanding of who Jesus is?
Did you know Jesus was able to read minds!?

Which do you think would be easier to say? Why?

Why do you think Jesus poses this question to them?
BOOM! Jesus made a claim and then proved it as truth!

What's running through your mind after reading this?

Does this strengthen your faith in Jesus?

What do you think was running through the mind of those who were there?
For reference, tax collectors were hated amongst the people they were taxing. Often citizens recruited by Rome to do this job, they were notorious for taking more than was asked of the people so they can keep much for themselves.

So with that in mind, What does this tell you about Jesus?

Have you ever felt not worthy of God's love? Does this prove to you otherwise?

What does this tell you about how we ought to treat others? How can you do that in your life?
No matter where you are in life when you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you are forgiven of your sins and chosen to be a child of God! Does that not just feel you with hope and love!?:)

Finish up Mark Chapter 2 with your family and then answer the questions below.
Why do you think it was so hard for the religious leaders to accept that Jesus ate with sinners?

Jesus makes a profound statement in 2:17, “It is not healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” What does that mean to you?

What role has forgiveness played in your life? Share your story.
