Isn’t the Bible a Myth?

Isn’t the Bible a Myth?

There are many people that say there are many good things in the Bible, but you should not take it literally. Others say that the Bible should not be trusted because some parts of the Bible are wrong and historically unreliable. So let’s talk about it as we look into these concerns.

hey

There are many people that say there are many good things in the Bible, but you should not take it literally. Others say that the Bible should not be trusted because some parts of the Bible are wrong and historically unreliable. So let’s talk about it as we look into these concerns.

2 Timothy 3:16
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness…

Isaiah 1:18
Come now, let us reason together…
1. I feel the Bible has valuable moral teachings, but the book is built on myths.

66 BOOKS – 40 AUTHORS – 1500 YEARS

Luke 3:1-2

2. I feel the Bible is full of contradictions that undermine it’s own authority.
3. I’m sure all kinds of errors or legends have gotten written into the Bible because we no longer have the original copies of the Bible.

NEW TESTAMENT
5,664 Greek manuscripts – within decades of the life of Jesus.

OLD TESTAMENT

The Bible telling a big story like in a play of 5 acts:
Act 1 CREATION
Act 2 FALL
Act 3 ISRAEL
Act 4 JESUS
Act 5 CHURCH
4. I see people quite selective about which parts of the Bible they obey and which they ignore, so all talk about biblical authority is disingenuous.

5. I believe science has proven that you cannot take the Bible literally.
Ecclesiastes 7:14
"In the day of prosperity rejoice."

Genesis 1:16-19
God created ...the greater light to govern the day...there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.
6. If I start taking the Bible seriously, it might interfere with my plans for my life.

Hebrews 4:12

SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS

1. When people have objections about the Bible, do you think they are more troubled by the ethical aspects of the Bible or the historical aspects?

2. (a) Do you find that people have objections because they have read and researched the Bible and are troubled by what they find? If not, what are you observing?
(b) When you are troubled by Biblical passages, how do you resolve what troubles you?

3. The Bible says this about itself: 2 Timothy 3:16. Do you agree?

4. What did the writers themselves say about the inspiration behind Scripture. Imagine what it must have been like for them to receive this inspiration!
David - 2 Samuel 23:2
Jeremiah - 2:1-2
Paul - 1 These. 4:1-2
John - Revelation 1:1
Jesus - Luke 24:44
Peter - 2 Peter 1:20

If you were to look at the affect of Scripture on your life how would you describe it?
