Biography for Pastor Joe

Pastor Joe was born in the little town of Crasna (Romania). Ever since he was a child, he has been fascinated by the unique connection between pastors and their special book, the Bible. When at the age of 7 he received his first little Bible from a brave pastor who was able to procure it for him in spite of the interdictions of the communist regime, he felt special and decided one day he would become a pastor.

After serving as a Pastor for 8 years in Romania, in 2013 he immigrated to the USA. He currently serves as Lead Pastor of Plantation Seventh-day Adventist Church. Along with his wonderful wife Anda and their gorgeous daughter Alessandra, he enjoys proclaiming God’s grace and ministering to his fellows.

By God's grace, in February 2020 he completed my doctoral program obtaining a Doctor of Ministry degree in Preaching/Homiletics from Andrews University. His hobbies are languages, music, and poetry.

Our role is that of the watchman that has to announce the state of the night and coming of the morning.

Isaiah 21:11-12

Identity

Who are you in this prophecy? Are you the watchman or the inquirer? Who are you as an individual? Who are we as a church? Are we the watchman or the inquirer?

Who is Dumah? Dumah here is a shortening from Idumaea, which is another name for Edom/Esau. In the Bible, Mount Seir is the place where the Edomites lived. Petra, the famous ancient city is in the same region. Try to visualize this: a fellow from Seir cries out in the night and asks: “Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?” To which the watchman replies: “Morning is coming and also the night.”

When Jerusalem fell into the hands of the Babylonians, Edom rejoiced over the destruction of the city. They encouraged the invaders. In Ps. 137:7 the exiled pray: Remember, O LORD, against the sons of Edom The day of Jerusalem, Who said, "Raze it, raze it, To its very foundation!" According to this prophecy,God was going to punish them for gloating over the misfortune of Judea. M was coming for the Jews and night…

This picture vividly depicts the situation before Jesus’ second coming. Today, someone from among the nations(Atheists, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, etc.), a sincere human being, cries out to the watchman, who has God’s Prophetic Word, and asks: “Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?”

Like a watchman of the old, you are on the lookout and you have a prophetic duty to announce the coming of the morning. The angel told John in Rev. 10:11:"You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, tongues, and kings."From the beginning, Adventists took this passage as a foundation foo their identity.
3. Intentionality

It seems to me that this pandemic is tapping us on our shoulders… Watchman, what’s your duty? Are you intentional about it?
The answer of the watchman is mysterious… "Morning is coming, but/and also the night.”Some translators render this sentence like this: “Morning is coming, but the night is still here…” It’s that moment at the crack of the dawn when the light fights the darkness…
But this expression, "Morning is coming, but/and also the night”could also refer to what Amos 5:18 says:“The day of the LORD is darkness, and not light...There is a “morning” coming, a time of light and hope for those who welcome the light, but night is coming for those who cling to the darkness. T, that is, deliverance is at hand… this is the Gospel! This is good news! But the night is coming too, that is, destruction is also at hand…
The role and duty of the watchman is to announce the coming of the morning. But he cannot keep silent regarding the coming of the night either! If the watchman only talked about the coming darkness… that would be no Gospel… If he only talked about the morning, that would be false gospel. But the main focus of the watchman is the morning, not the night!
“If you are really interested, feel free to come back and ask again.”
Romans 13:12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. (Rom. 13:12)
2. Insight

The watchman has been appointed by God and he has a specific duty.. Yes, he has a deeper insight! Much is expected of him. Isaiah 21:6 says: For thus has the Lord said to me: "Go, set a watchman. Let him declare what he sees..."The watchman sees and says... By the special vision of the Holy Spirit, the watchman can see the morning even when everybody around him sees sheer darkness.
The watchman is indispensible for the inquirer. The inquirer can’t sleep. Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night? The repetition of the same words shows the gravity of the situation. The question is repeated, as if the person was in panic mode, or fearing the watchman may not hear him the first time… Keep calling! Or it may denote one coming after another in a fright, asking the same question. What is going on? Can you see anything? Is there any enemy out there? How much of the night is left? Is morning breaking?
Much is expected of the watchman…! And you are a watchman! What are you doing?
Many watchmen become experts in taking incidental or accidental and making them fundamental… For some so called watchmen the main concern is not the “coming of the morning” The Apostle Peter says: And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a darkplace, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts (2 Pet. 1:19)The watchman, in order to be able to see and say… needs the prophetic word.
