Friday 3:25 PM

In this passage of God’s Word we see Mary being incredibly blessed. Instead of becoming proud, however, we see Mary reacting with an incredible amount of faithfulness. By taking a look at her in this story, we can learn how to faithfully respond when God blesses us.

When God blesses you:

1. Praise God
Luke 1:46-47, Ps. 103:1-2, 115:1, Heb. 13:15

2. Stay humble
Luke 1:48-49, Deut. 6:12, 8:2, Is. 46:9

3. Bless others
Luke 1:54-55, Matt. 5:16, 7:12, Prov. 11:25-26
Reflection Questions

1. After taking a look at Mary’s story here in chapter 1 of the Gospel of Luke, what stands out to you the most? If you’re familiar with the story, did you notice anything that you haven’t noticed before? How can this passage of God’s Word help you to prepare your heart for Christmas this year?

2. It was an extreme honor for God to choose Mary to be the earthly mother of Jesus. Although none of us will have this honor, think through what God has blessed you with. Make a list of the top 10 things, and spend some time thanking God for those things.

3. Mary remained tremendously humble throughout this chapter. Have you ever struggled to do that and become haughty or big-headed over what God has blessed you with? What was the outcome of that? How did that impact your faith?

4. Using the list that you created in question #2, what practical step(s) can you take to better use the things that God has blessed you with to glorify God and bless others? Dream big here. Create a picture in your mind of what that could look like. Who will keep accountable to accomplishing that?
