In this passage of God’s Word we enter into a story where it is extremely likely that people felt like God had abandoned them. It is in these dark circumstances, though, where God’s light shines the brightest. After 400 years of being silent, God speaks through an Angel to a priest named Zechariah. By taking a look this story, we see that…
God is faithful:
1. By hearing our prayers
Luke 1:5-17, 1 John 5:14-15, Matt. 21:22
2. Despite our unfaithfulness
Luke 1:18-25, 2 Tim. 2:13, 1 Cor. 1:9
3. To make the impossible, possible
Luke 1:24-25, 37, Matt. 19:26, Jer. 32:17
4. To His promises
Luke 1:67-79, Ps. 145:13

Reflection Questions
1. After taking a look at Zechariah’s story here in chapter 1 of the Gospel of Luke, what stands out to you the most? If you’re familiar with the story, did you notice anything that you haven’t noticed before?
2. It was disgraceful during this era to be barren. If you were Zechariah or Elizabeth, would you hold a grudge against God for not blessing you with children? How do you think you would’ve felt towards God?
3. Is there anything that you have been praying about for a long time and feels like God has been silent to you about it? If so, how has that impacted your faith?
4. Was there a season of your life where you felt like God was silent to answer your prayers about something in particular? What was that? What ended up happening? How was your faith impacted because of that?
5. What practical step(s) can you take to better remember God’s faithful towards you in your daily life? Who will keep you accountable to that?

In-Person Service Update
Thank you for your continual faithfulness and flexibility during these times. We especially appreciate those 8+ years old wearing their mask when not seated 6+ feet away from those outside of their household. Please remember, no offering plates will be passed; instead we ask you to give online or via the giving box near the gym entrance. Tables are set up in the back row of the gym for families with young children. We also kindly ask you to use the restroom before you come to ensure that our restrooms are as clean as possible for those who need to use them.
