GIFTS OF HOPE: Frankincense (He Understands)
Hope and Gifts are tied together
The gifts were useful for the family and foreshadowed what Jesus would represent
Frankincense: The “Swiss army knife” of oils
Frankincense: Represents the priestly nature of Jesus
High Priest made sacrifices to God for the forgiveness of the people’s sins
High Priest offered prayers to God on behalf of the people
Garden of Eden: Had the holiness of God and the purity of humankind
After Eve sinned: Had the holiness of God and the sinfulness of mankind
We will have a casual approach to sin unless we understand the holiness of God
Holy (Hagios): Separate, other, different
Our sin disrupts our intimacy and fellowship with God
Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur): Day the High Priest made sacrifice for our sins
The scapegoat: Symbolizing the sins have been separated from the people of God
Sacrificing animals always meant to be temporary covering (Old Covenant)
Jesus is a High Priest who understands and cares
