Isaiah 9:6

Why did Jesus come to earth?
“For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save the lost.” (Luke 19:10)
“The Lord does not delay His promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9)

Who are “the lost” He came to save?
• They are the disenfranchised and outcasts.
“The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim freedom to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” (Luke 4:18-19)
• They are the elites.
“Because you say, ‘I’m rich; I have become wealthy and need nothing,’ and you don’t know that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked …” (Revelation 3:17)
• They are average.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)

What does it mean to be “saved” /to come to repentance?
It means …
• … peace with God for my past.
“But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us!” (Romans 5:8)
“But He was pierced because of our transgressions, crushed because of our iniquities; punishment for our peace was on Him, and we are healed by His wounds.” [HCSB]
“But he was wounded and crushed for our sins. He was beaten that we might have peace. He was whipped, and we were healed!” (Isaiah 53:5) [NLT]
“Therefore, since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 5:1)
• … peace of God for today.
“Therefore, since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 5:1)
• … that one day there will peace on earth.
“He will settle disputes among the nations and provide arbitration for many peoples. They will turn their swords into plows and their spears into pruning knives. Nations will not take up the sword against other nations, and they will never again train for war.” (Isaiah 2:4)
“For the trampling boot of battle and the bloodied garments of war will be burned as fuel for the fire. For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on His shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. The dominion will be vast, and its prosperity will never end. He will reign on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish and sustain it with justice and righteousness from now on and forever. The zeal of the Lord of Hosts will accomplish this.” (Isaiah 9:5-7)
“Lord, grant us peace; for all we have and are has come from you.” (Isaiah 26:12) [NLT]
