Intervention - Hope
Exodus 19
Isaiah 9
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6
Advent
Wonderful Counselor (Hope)
Mighty God (Peace)
Everlasting Father (Joy)
Prince of Peace (Love)
It was easier to get the people out of Egypt than it was to get the Egypt out of them.
-Gareth Icenogle
“You are either being humble or in the process of becoming humbled.”
-Chan Gailey
The next day Moses took his seat to serve as judge for the people, and they stood around him from morning till evening. When his father-in-law saw all that Moses was doing for the people, he said, “What is this you are doing for the people? Why do you alone sit as judge, while all these people stand around you from morning till evening?”
Exodus 18:13-14
Moses answered him, “Because the people come to me to seek God’s will. Whenever they have a dispute, it is brought to me, and I decide between the parties and inform them of God’s decrees and instructions.”
Exodus 18:15-16
Jesus replied, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.”
Mark 1:38
Moses’ father-in-law replied,
“What you are doing is not good . . .”
Exodus 18:17
“Americans worship their work. They work at their play. They play at their worship.”
-Dallas Willard
Do you have a Jethro in your life?
You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone.
Exodus 18:18
“Now something greater than Solomon is here.”
-Jesus in Matthew 12:42
“Jesus is Lord” can mean little in practice for anyone who has to hesitate before saying, “Jesus is smart.” He is not just nice, he is brilliant. He is the smartest man who ever lived.

He is now supervising the entire course of world history (Rev. 1:5) while simultaneously preparing the rest of the universe for our future role in it (John 14:2). He always has the best information on everything and certainly also on the things that matter most in human life.
-Dallas Willard The Divine Conspiracy
What would it mean for Jesus to be your counselor?
Do the next right thing you know you ought to do. Nothing will drive you into the Kingdom of God like trying to do the next right thing that is right . . . because you will need help, and you will get it, because that’s where God is.”
-Dallas Willard
Listen now to me and I will give you some advice, and may God be with you. You must be the people’s representative before God and bring their disputes to him. Teach them his decrees and instructions, and show them the way they are to live and how they are to behave. But select capable men from all the people—men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain—and appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.
Exodus 18:19-21
Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests.
Exodus 19:5-6
[This] will make your load lighter, because they will share it with you. If you do this and God so commands, you will be able to stand the strain, and all these people will go home satisfied.
Exodus 18:22-23
