"Unchanging Agents of Change"
Hebrews 13:1-8 and Other Selected Passages
Pastor Kyle Ray

A paradox is a statement or proposition that seems self-contradictory or
absurd but in reality expresses a possible truth.
Paradoxes in our world…
- Jumbo Shrimp
- “No one ever goes to that restaurant because it is always so crowded.”
- “Deep down, you are a really shallow person.”
Paradoxes in scripture…
- To experience freedom from death we have to die to ourselves
- To be free from slavery to sin, we must become slaves to righteousness
- To be able to see, we must admit our blindness
Paradoxes in the Church
“Giving is paradoxical. Those who give, receive back in turn…By giving
ourselves away, we move towards flourishing. This is not only a
philosophical or religious teaching; it is a sociological fact.” – The Paradox of
Generosity
Paradoxes in the Church
“If we focus on being a hero, we may do some great things on this side of
eternity. However, if we focus on being a hero maker, we’ll see great things
happen through the people we invest in and the people they invest in and so
on. Paradoxically, hero makers on earth become heroes in eternity.” –
