Prayer Requests:

Group Discussion: Can you think of a time when someone asked you for help? Were you able to help them? What did it feel like to contribute to the resolution of their problem?
Read aloud: Psalm 8
Notice that Psalm 8 begins and ends with the exactly the same line, O Lord, our Lord, How majestic is your name in all the Earth. The Hebrew writers used repetition to draw attention to different parts of their story or poem. Here, David, the writer uses this poetic line to point toward the middle of his poem. Let’s think about the beginning and end first.
#1. The Majesty of God humbles me. Psalm 8 tells us that God’s name majestic because He created all the universe and the Earth is God’s physical representation of His power! Talk about how complex the world is, how do different species, systems, and ecology depend on one another? The intellectual brilliance of God is seen in the complexity of His universe but even more His power to bring it to fruition and life are seen. What’s the most awesome display of power you’ve ever seen?
#2. The Creation of God impresses me. Psalm 8:2-3 & 6-8, also tells us that from fragile infants to seemingly indestructible planets (moon and stars), to ALL things (vs. 6-7) God is over it all! God’s creation is not only physical material but people formed in His image in whom He breathed the breath of life. Have you ever thought about the fact that God put your soul in you? Have you considered that God created you in particular to live for Him and use your gifts and abilities to serve Him? How is He using your life right now? How do you experience His presence? How do you acknowledge His role in your life? Vs. 6 says we are to rule over everything that is the work of His hands! He has given us dominion over His creation, so how do you take care of the part of God’s that He’s given you care over? Your home, garden, children, etc?
#3. The Care of God overwhelms me. Psalm 8:4-5 makes it clear that we are created just a little below the divine nature of God. Isn’t it amazing that God makes us His highest creation! The ability to think, plan, dream, invent is amazing. What one of these, or some other trait, are most thankful to God.
Family Time: Read Psalm 139:14 and highlight the phrase, “I am wonderfully made!” Talk about how our bodies are very complex with all kinds of parts that cooperate. Our hands do what our brain says, lungs breath without us thinking about it, hair grows, we can run, jump, eat, smell. All kinds of abilities. Take a little time to pray and thank God for the great way He made us to enjoy life.
