Prophecy and History [November 8] Greg Burlile

Daniel 8:1-27

The Ram with Two Horns
(vss. 1-4, 15-20)

Represents the of Media and Persia

The Goat with the Horn Between His Eyes
(vss. 5-8, 21-22)

The Goat Represents the Kingdom of Greece

The large horn represents Alexander the Great who virtually conquered the world by age 26

The four horns that took the large horn's place, are when Alexander the Great's kingdom was divided by his 4 generals
The Little Horn
(vss. 9-14, 23-27)

Not the same as the little horn in chapter 7. The one in chapter 7 is most likely the antichrist.

The little horn in Daniel 8 represents Antiochus Ephiphanes (175 B.C.).

There may well be some things that Anitiochus Ephiphanes and the final antichrist have in common. We have been told there will be many antichrists before the final one (1 John 2:18).
Application for Us Today:

1: Seeing this fulfilled prophecy reinforces the truthfulness of God's Word

Is God's Word THE authority for what you believe and how you live?

2: God's Word can prepare us for what is to come

If we remember this, it helps us endure when it's hard to live for Jesus.
John 16:1-4

3: Though evil may seem to rule the day, God is in control. ("It ain't over until it's over" - Yogi Berra)

Psalm 103:15-16
