Often the enemy of whole life generosity is not greed; it is fear. The fear of tomorrow stops us from trusting God as our provider.

God calls us to a journey of faith and an adventure of trust. We never stop needing to trust God and our trust will be tested.

The more we learn to trust God in the desert places of our lives the more generous we will become.

Elijah stood for truth and righteousness in a culture of confusion and lies.

Elijah spoke against the evil of lies and self-worship at the cost of his own life.

God does not ignore character because character is an indication of who you worship! God is generous but He is not mocked.
The Arrogance of Self-Determination will always be judged.

You cannot worship God and self at the same time. Trying to do that will lead to spiritual drought.

Often God judges a nation by taking something from it that it took for granted to reveal its arrogance and the real source of generosity.

The Dominion of Canada was meant to reflect the fact that God will have dominion from sea to sea.

A nation becomes great and it becomes great again only when God is worshipped as the one who has dominion over all.

We become generous people who worship God alone who is great!
God calls us to trust Him in humble dependence as the provider.

Rather than trust in another form of self-determination, Elijah listens to God who determines his steps.

Elijah is tested to humbly depend on God as his provider.

The source is not our rights. The source is the honour and glory of God.

God prepares us for whole-life generosity that comes through faith in Him.

God doesn’t just feed you; He forms you! He hasn’t forgotten you; He is forging you.
God prepares us to live by faith in His resources and not to fear tomorrow.

It had been good to trust God in the secret place now God wants Elijah to trust Him in the vulnerable place.

Asking for help from a poor widow doesn’t seem nation impacting but it was life transforming.

Elijah was learning to trust in God’s resources and not to fear tomorrow. But the widow would also need to trust.

Usually we give according to what we have left over. Yet this widow, in dire need, steps up, puts her whole life on the line and experiences the miraculous generosity of God.

When she steps out in faith ‘The Lord your God’ slowly becomes ‘The Lord my God!’
Each meal reminded her of God’s generosity. Each meal reminded her that the Lord her God calls us to trust in His resources and not to fear tomorrow.

He owns the cattle on a thousand hills. He is the God of unlimited resources. He calls us out among the waters.

Our core identity is not the safety net of what we have; it is in God who “did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all. How will he not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things?” Romans 8:32

What do you fear about tomorrow that God is asking you to trust Him with?

How is God preparing you to live in humble dependence?

What false god needs to be smashed in your life so that God may rule in you?

Share stories of how God has deepened your trust in Him as your provider rather than live in fear of tomorrow.

Worship Through Giving

Giving back to God is a regular expression of worship, gratitude and praise. See our giving options. Offering Prayer: God thank you for everything that you have provided to us. We give back to you as an expression of worship, gratitude, and praise for who you are. You are a good good father. Thank you that through this challenging time, we are assured that we do not need to worry, but trust that you will provide for our needs. Help us to be generous with what you have given, and lead us into opportunities to bless and serve others with the resources you have given to us. In Jesus' name. Amen
