Title: Free to Put Others First
Passage: Romans 15:1-13
Big Idea: Christ made us free to live in love, so now all will know we are Christ’s.

1. What is love?
- It is outwardly-focused - it looks on weakness in others not as an opportunity to lord it over them, but as an opportunity to love them into growing in their relationship with God.
- It is self-sacrificing - it puts the interests of others above my own interests.
- It is not self-motivated - it gives without expecting anything back

2. Who is the image of love? - Christ did not please himself, yet still He loved.
- The way that Christ “pleased others” was not instead of God, it was instead of Himself. In this way, he demonstrated the strong bearing with the weaknesses of those without strength.
- Christ put others needs above His own.

3. God’s plan of love was bigger.
- God’s plan of salvation was not just limited to the Jews, but it was also for the Gentile.
- God’s Word confirms this.
- God’s plan was to show that His love for us changed us so much that we love one another, even in our weaknesses. This is a witness to the world of Christ in us.

Core Value: Growing people change.

We've discussed giving up preferences in the past. What might it look like for the strong Christian to give up preferences for a weak Christian, that the weak might grow in their faith?

Why do you think Paul immediately follows "bearing with the weaknesses of those without strength" with the concept of worshipping God together? How might tightly holding to preferences affect unity and corporate worship?

Why do you think Paul says it is the obligation of the STRONG to bear with the weaknesses of those who are NOT strong? How do you see Christians living this out today? Where do you see Christians failing? What should we do?
