You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
Knowledge is not the enemy of faith.
The Problem: The existence of God in the presence of pain.
The Problem with the Problem
Pain and injustice may be one of our greatest clues that God does in fact exist.
“My argument against God was that the universe seemed so cruel and unjust. But how had I got this idea of just and unjust? A man does not call a line crooked unless he has some idea of a straight line.”
-C.S. Lewis
Can good ever come out of pain?
“The symptoms and the illness are not the same thing. The illness exists long before the symptoms. Rather than being the illness, the symptoms are the beginnings of its cures.”
-M. Scott Peck, The Road Less Traveled
God is more interested in our eternal holiness than in our temporary happiness. He is more interested in our enduring character than in our momentary comfort.
More than a half-century of Christian experience has led me to the conviction that few enduring lessons in life come through pleasure. All of mine have come through pain. Yet, I have joyfully learned that the poet was right when he said, “God is good when He gives supremely good, nor less when He denies. Even crosses from His gracious hands are blessings in disguise.”
-Norman Geisler
