Luke 14:15-24

Luke 14:1
One Sabbath, when Jesus went to eat in the house of a prominent Pharisee, he was being carefully watched.

Jesus scolded the Pharisees for their…
-lack of compassion (v.2-6)
-lack of humility (v.7-11)
-lack of Biblical hospitality (v.12-14)

Luke 14:15
“Blessed is the man who will eat at the feast in the kingdom of God.”

Jesus is far more concerned about our spiritual growth than our comfort

Luke 14:16-24

Luke 14:15
“Blessed is the man who will eat at the feast in the kingdom of God.”

“Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.”

All three excuses for rejecting the final invitation were different, but they all revolved around priorities

Why would Jesus share this story with the Pharisees?

Symbolism:
Man/Banquet Host = God
Banquet = Salvation/Heaven
Original Guests = Israelites/Jews

Exodus 6:7
“I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God.”

When the Pharisees’ opportunity to respond to the invitation and attend the banquet came, they allowed other things to get in the way

How does this parable apply to our lives?

How will you respond to your invitation to attend the banquet?

Unfortunately, we’re prone to give excuses

Is work keeping you from being all-in when it comes to your relationship with God?

Is money (possessions) keeping you from being all-in when it comes to your relationship with God?

Do we elevate our commitment to family over our commitment to God?

A godly marriage and solid parenting should be a result of our commitment to God

“If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple.”
