New Horizon Church
"The Disciple Whom Jesus Loved" (Part 6)
It's our late summer message series. A stroll through the Book of First John (not to be confused with the Gospel of John.) It's all about loving people more, by loving Jesus more. Hope you'll be a part.

ABOUT TODAY'S MESSAGE:

“I Don't Have To” 1 John 3

It's one of the first phrases we learn as kids. And we'll battle this attitude all our days. But there's an upside to this sentiment: In Christ, we don't have to. It's God's Good News for the non-conformist in each of us.

Today's Big Idea: I don't have to!
A. I don't have to be an orphan. v.1

1. I was once far from God. (Ephesians 2:12)

2. I am no longer excluded. (Ephesians 2:13)

3. I am now a child of God. (1 John 3:1)
B. I don't have to sin. v.5-9

BLUE—Great news! v.5

YELLOW—Sounds threatening! v.6

RED—I was a bondservant! v.8a

GREEN—Jesus defeated the devil! v.8b

BLUE—I don’t have to sin! v.9
C. I don't have to hate. v.11-14

1. I've got a mean streak.

2. I act out my mean streak towards others.

3. Self-giving is the currency of the Kingdom.

D. I don't have to live with guilt. v.19-21

1. Guilt keeps us from God. Genesis 3:10

2. There is no condemnation in Christ. Romans 8:1

3. Jesus removes the guilt of our sin. Psalm 32:5
OUR RESPONSE. What's involved with keeping God's commandments? v.23-24

Believing on Christ.

Loving one another.
WHAT NOW? To-do.

v.22 We receive what we ask because we do what please Him.

Let's ask for opportunities to love and serve others.
