OPENING HYMN “Chief of Sinners Though I Be”
1 Chief of sinners though I be,
Jesus shed His blood for me,
Died that I might live on high,
Lives that I might never die.
As the branch is to the vine,
I am His, and He is mine.

2 Oh, the height of Jesus’ love,
Higher than the heav’ns above,
Deeper than the depths of sea,
Lasting as eternity!
Love that found me—wondrous thought!
Found me when I sought Him not.
THE INVOCATION:
P: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen.

WE CONFESS OUR SIN AND RECEIVE GOD’S FORGIVENESS:
P: Each day, we face choices. Do we follow what God says or what our desire and self-interest says? From small to big decisions, what will we choose? Selfishness deceives us. In our pride, we even try to “choose” God, believing we have the power within ourselves to live a good life. But we know “there is no one who does good” (Psalm 14:1). When we search our hearts, what we choose is corrupt, evil, selfish, and motivated by sin. Today we make a different choice. Today we confess together:

C: Lord God, our hearts are twisted in on ourselves. We choose the things that benefit our desires and wants, not the things that honor You or help our neighbor. Even when we try to be the light of the world, we frequently turn the glory to ourselves. We have elected our own desires to rule, rather than You, our King. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways, to the glory of Your holy name. Amen.

P: Jesus has made it clear. “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to bear fruit that will last” (John 15:16). You have been chosen by God, and the fruit we bear is the confession that we need Jesus to save us, that Jesus is the Leader of our lives, that Jesus is risen from the dead and Lord of all. Upon the confession of your sins, be assured that you are forgiven in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

C: Amen!

PSALM OF THE DAY……Psalm 37:23-29
P: The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in his way; though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong,
C: for the Lord upholds his hand.
P: I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken
C: or his children begging for bread.
P: He is ever lending generously,
C: and his children become a blessing.
P: Turn away from evil and do good;
C: so shall you dwell forever.
P: For the Lord loves justice; he will not forsake his saints. They are preserved forever,
C: but the children of the wicked shall be cut off.
P: The righteous shall inherit the land
C: and dwell upon it forever.
P: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
C: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

THE HYMN OF PRAISE:
“Jesus Lives! The Victory’s Won!”………………………..LSB 490
Jesus lives! For me He died,
Hence will I, to Jesus living,
Pure in heart and act abide,
Praise to Him and glory giving.
All I need God will dispense;
This shall be my confidence..

THE PRAYER OF THE DAY:
P: Merciful Father, we are sinful. You have called us to faith and we need Your Holy Spirit to keep us in faith. Keep us active in Your Word that we may grow in the grace and knowledge of our Savior, Jesus, and that we would be prepared for the day You call us to heaven. We ask this in the gracious and powerful name of Jesus.
C: Amen.
P: This is the Word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.

P: This is the Gospel of the Lord.
C: Praise be to You, O Christ. ♫
NICENE CREED
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, Being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary And was made man; And was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried; And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures; And ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father; And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead; whose kingdom will have no end.
And I believe in the Holy Spirit, The Lord and giver of life, Who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified, who spoke by the Prophets. And I believe one holy Christian and Apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead; and the life of the world to come. Amen.

SERMON HYMN
Chief of Sinners Though I Be
Only Jesus can impart
Balm to heal the wounded heart,
Peace that flows from sin forgiv’n,
Joy that lifts the soul to heav’n,
Faith and hope to walk with God
In the way that Enoch trod.

Chief of sinners though I be,
Christ is all in all to me;
All my wants to Him are known,
All my sorrows are His own.
He sustains the hidden life
Safe with Him from earthly strife.
