Scripture tells us that one day Christ is coming, and when He comes He is going to instantaneously transform us into His presence and glory. Enoch’s claim to fame was simply that He walked with God.
- Genesis 5 records like an obituary column, one man after another, but when you read verse 21, Enoch lived 65 years.
- Enoch walked with God after He birthed Methuselah and other sons.
- Enoch walked with God; that not a euphemism.
- The Bible tells us the Christian life is a journey: Isaiah 40:31 says "They shall walk and not faint."
- We are never going to live the Christian life in power until we learn how to walk.
I. Motivations of Enoch's Faith
The tremendous responsibility of parenthood -
- Responsibility as a parent to set the pace for our children spiritually
- A man of faith refuses to go to Heaven without his children
- Joshua 24 “For me and my house"
- Motivation: he had this child and other children
- We have lost what it means to fear God. What was the fear that prompted his faith? The fear was hidden in the name he gave his first born.
- The unique name Methuselah contains a cryptic message: “When he dies, it shall come.” God revealed to Enoch what would happen when Methuselah died.
- There is a fixed day and it's coming soon: fear God.
- Enoch by faith saw the 2nd coming of Christ (Jude 14).
- Enoch saw things that average men did not see.
- Enoch saw by faith and rested upon God: only faith pleases God.
- Enoch believed in the eternal existence of God.
- Enoch had faith that led him to cease walking the way of the world and start walking with God.
- Revelation 4:11 tells us that all things are created for God’s pleasure.
- Psalm 16:8: "I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved." When we walk with God we are strong, nothing can shake us!
- Enoch wasn’t perfect, but he was progressing (Psalm 37:23-24).
- He became a prophet to the people of his time, warning them to flee judgment.
- Jude 14-15 tell us the faith that Enoch had as a result of his close walk with God gave him the power to preach this message boldly and courageously.
- This took place after he lived to age 365.
- The Bible says God took him, Enoch came to his last day and He was translated.
- What happened to Enoch will happen on a much bigger scale in the last days.
