INTRO: Spiritual Blindness - To be spiritually blind is not to see Christ, and not to see Christ is not to see God.

- Sin is the source of Spiritual Blindness. All have sinned and fall short the glory of God. Rom 3:23
And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. 21 But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God. John 3:19-21

- Satan works to keep us Blind.

"...but even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them. 2 Cor 4:3-4

- The Saved are called to deliver the Blind.
“I, the Lord, have called You in righteousness, And will hold Your hand; I will keep You and give You as a covenant to the people, as a light to the Gentiles, 7 To open blind eyes, To bring out prisoners from the prison, Those who sit in darkness from the prison house. Isaiah 42:6-8

ANALYSIS/APPLICATION: Helping the Blind on their Road to FAITH

1. Faith Comes by Hearing.
Now they came to Jericho. As He (Jesus) went out of Jericho with His disciples and a great multitude, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the road begging. 47 And when he heard
How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!” 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?” 17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:14-17

2. Faith Centers on the Word
And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth... Vs 47
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
John 1:1-5

3. Faith Cries Out for Mercy
And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Vs 47

4. Faith Confesses its Condition.
So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be called. Then they called the blind man, saying to him, “Be of good cheer. Rise, He is calling you.” 50 And throwing aside his garment, he rose and came to Jesus. 51 So Jesus answered and said to him, “What do you want Me to do for you? ”The blind man said to Him, “Rabboni, that I may receive my sight.” Vs 49-51
If you confess your sins, He is faithful and just to forgive your sins and cleanse you from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

5. Faith Conforms to its Lord.
And in dramatic fashion a miracle happens… Then Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the road. Vs 52
- Let me ask you, are you a man or woman on the bank or in the boat???
