1 Kings 17:1-7 NIV
Look at Elijah - One of the most famous and dramatic prophets of Israel
200 years of evil kings - Ahab was the worst
God has a plan for Elijah, but realizes he isn't ready yet
Sometimes He's doing things in you so He can do more through you
3 Stages of Preparation:
1) Season of pain
"Kerith" - means cut off or cut down
God humbled him privately, so He could use him publicly
God was breaking him and shaping him
A. W. Tozer - "It's doubtful that God can bless a man greatly until He's hurt him deeply"
2) Season of Total Dependence on God
God - "I'm going to be your Provider"
His storehouse is full!
When everything you used to trust in is taken away, God will take care of you
Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV
God wants full custody, not just weekend visits!
3) Season of Unconditional Obedience
The provision dried up, Gone
Why? To give us the courage to take a step of total obedience
"Go to Zarephath" - means "to melt"
God had provision ready. Enough for him and others too!
