Exposure to Jesus and the gospel is no guarantee of faith; indeed, apart from faith, exposure to the gospel inoculates as often as it enlivens.
- James Edwards, The Gospel According to Mark (commentary)
...every human being has been hardwired by God to live in daily awe of him. This means the deepest, most lifeshaping, practical daily motivation of every human being was designed to be the awe of God...
The spiritual danger here is that when awe of God is absent, it is quickly replaced by awe of ourselves. If you are not living for God, the only alternative is to live for yourself.
- Paul Tripp, Dangerous Calling

CONVERSATION STARTERS – Olathe Campus
ICEBREAKER. What captured your attention in this week’s sermon?

WONDER: What is it that stirs up a sense of wonder in your life? What is it about those things that captures your attention? Share the ways in which that sense of wonder has, or hasn’t, change over time. What are some factors that play into our “wonder” changing?
ENGAGING SCRIPTURE. Read 13:53-58. Why do you think Jesus’ hometown crowd so quickly moved from astonishment to offense? What is it about familiarity that can be so dangerous?
EXPLORING PREJUDICE: Nathan framed prejudice simply as taking a step to pre-judge, or to make a judgement based on what you think you know. What are some ways that someone might pre-judge, or have prejudice against, Jesus?
INOCULATED OR ENLIVENED: Nathan quoted James Edwards, who said “Exposure to Jesus and the gospel is no guarantee of faith; indeed, apart from faith, exposure to the gospel inoculates as often as it enlivens.”
