The Great Ones is our theme through November. Each month has a different sub-theme:
September = Commands
October = Chapters
November = Choices
It's hard to choose, but this month we'll look at Pastor Don's list of 4 great chapters of the Bible.
One chapter was chosen out of the 4 main divisions of the Bible:
-The Torah
-The Writings
-The Prophets
-The New Testament
Last week we looked at the Torah, the first 5 books of the Old Testament, and learned about Deuteronomy 5 & 6.

Today our key passage, Psalm 23, is from the Writings which consists of books like Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, and others.
Have you ever read something (a book, document, song lyrics, or poetry) that you thought was beautiful, amazing, or profound?

For many, Psalm 23, from the writings is consistently one of the most well-known and favorite passages.
By studying Psalm 23 and applying its truth to our lives, we'll move from an information based mindset about God to a transformative personal relationship with our Creator, Provider, Lord and Savior.
This Psalm is mostly known because it has been used predominately in funerals and for the care of those who are ill in some form. But really the Psalm focuses on what the Lord does for us "all the days of my life."
With careful reading we see that David is dealing with some really tough issues when he wrote this.
The message of the Psalm resonates with mature Christians who have fought battles, been betrayed, have experienced loss, sorrow, pain, and who have been battered, bruised, broken, and are carrying burdens.
We'll use the King James Version, which is the most poetic of all versions, to look at just one verse today.
Psalm 23:1a
#1 - THE
Exodus 20:1-3; Psalm 96:5; Psalm 135:15-17
Thought: Who or what we worship is so important because it determines the decisions we make in this life and dictates our destiny in the next life!
#2 - The LORD
Exodus 3:14
Thought: The size of your God will determine the size of your faith!
#3 - The Lord IS
Psalm 102:25-27
Thought: Stop this week and make a short list of things about God you appreciate!
#4 - The Lord is MY
Deuteronomy 6:4
Thought: Talk to someone this week about what it means to have a personal relationship with Jesus!
#5 - The Lord is my SHEPHERD
John 10:1-15; Hebrews 13:20-21
Thought: Our obedience indicates the acceptance of His ownership. Today we are either saying, “Bahhhhhhh” or “Nahhhhhh!” And if life ends today, what will you say?
Application and Discussion Questions:

1. Is there a book, document, song lyric, or piece of poetry that you think is amazing and has touched your heart? What is it and what impact has it made in your life?

2. Read Psalm 23 and ask the Lord to give you some fresh insights, then talk about these with some friends and family members.

3. In the message on Sunday our focus was on Psalm 23:1a “The Lord is my shepherd; …” Did you learn something new about this part of the verse? Which of the five words resonated most with you?

4. Are there any decisions or actions that you will consider this week as a result of this verse?

5. Post this passage on some aspect of social media and use it as an opportunity to tell why Jesus is your shepherd and what that means to you. Be a witness!
